While you were distracted with brightly colored lights....

I like the 4th of July. It is always fun except when a politician starts mouthing off about "liberty and rights" as guaranteed by the Constitution all the while they have voted to strip you of those rights. Lucky for them most Americans are too distracted watching fireworks, wearing their American flag t-shirt, stuffing their face with hotdogs, and washing it down with a cold brew. It is easy to be distracted and ignorant especially in Texas.

It is unfortunate that most Americans are ignorant of the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution. These are called "The Bill of Rights" and include the most obvious rights, freedom of speech (1st), right to bear arms (2nd), protection from illegal search and seizure (4th), and a little known amendment that protects your right to a trial by jury (7th).

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined, a in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Our elected officials, especially in Texas, know most people could care less about about lawsuits until they have been cheated by a home builder, maimed by a doctor, lost their retirement due to a crooked stock broker, and they are on the verge of financial collapse. Then they care, but by then it is too late. Our elected officials know that most Texans are distracted by the bright lights in the sky on the 4th of July, so they quietly removed your rights to a trial by jury and allowed corporations to dictate mandatory binding arbitration, a private, for profit, justice system.

What could possibly go wrong with that? More later......
